Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, is an inflammatory skin condition that happens when tiny holes in the skin become blocked by oily and dead skin cells which often results in the outbreak of pimples or zits. Acne is of six types: blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts.

Acne is most common in teens and young adults but acne’s are also found among peoples in the ’30s, ’40s, and even ’50s. According to a publication by researchgate.net, Acne is estimated to affect 9.4% of the global population, making it the eighth-most prevalent disease worldwide. The outbreaks of acne mostly occur on the face but can also appear on the back, chest, and shoulder.

Myth # 1: Only teenagers get acne.

Although acne outbreaks are most frequently appear in teens the truth is that people of all ages suffer from acne.

Myth # 2: Lack of hygiene and dirt causes acne.

Proper hygiene and dirt on the skin have nothing to do with acne. Although it is recommended to keep your face and body parts clean if you are already affected by acne.

Myth # 3: Stress causes acne.

Stress is not a cause of acne too but it can make it worse.

Myth # 4: Makeup causes acne breakouts.

Wearing makeup that can clog the pores of your skin can cause acne. So before buying and using any makeup product you just need to check four points on the packaging :

1.It won’t clog the pore

2.It is oil-free.

3.It is non-comedogenic

4.It is non-acnegenic.

Myth # 5: Tan helps in clearing acne.

A little exposure to sunlight won’t have any effect on acne but too much exposure to UV rays of the sun can result in more irritation and more acne.

Myth # 6: Masturbation causes acne.

Masturbation does not cause acne, it has no direct connections with acne. On the other hand, it helps in relaxation, reduces stress, and many more.

Myth # 7: Eating chocolates and junk food cause acne.

There is no 100% proven connection found between chocolates, junk food, and acne. So, one cannot say that eating chocolates and junk food causes acne.

Myth # 8: Acne appears only on the face.

Acne can appear wherever the skin pores become clogged. It can be on the face, back, chest, shoulders, arms, and even buttocks.

Myth # 9: Scrubbing removes acne.

Scrubbing can actually worsen acne but cannot remove it.

Myth # 10: Acne will go away by itself.

Generally, acne did not go away by itself except in some rare cases. Without treatment, it can often progress, and get worse.

Fact # 2: More than 25% of men and 50% of women suffer from acne between the age of 25–45 years.

Fact # 3: Acne affects 3 in every 4 individuals between the age group of 11 to 30 years.

Fact # 5: According to research, food with a high glycemic index and dairy products trigger acne.

Fact # 6: If acne appears on the back, shoulders, or chest try wearing loose clothes so that the skin can breathe.

Fact # 7: There is no quick fix for acne you have to be patient and give your acne treatment time.

Fact # 8: Acne’s are not dangerous, they will definitely go away with time but can leave scars.

Fact # 9: Acne treatments are not permanent cures. Even after your acne clears up you need to take steps to prevent future breakouts.
